Ryan Reynolds is cast as Pikachu in the upcoming Pokémon film Detective Pikachu.

Step aside Deadpool. It has just been announce that actor Ryan Reynolds has been cast in the upcoming film detective Pikachu as the title character. Ryan Reynolds will be joining actor Justice Smith and actress Kathryn Newton in the upcoming Pokemon film.

Detective Pikachu will star a particular Pikachu that stands out from the rest of his Pokémon species.

"Pikachu is a species of Pokemon, while Detective Pikachu the character is a peculiar sort from the Pikachu set, a self-styled investigator who is good at finding things. Reynolds will play the titular Detective Pikachu."

Except for Team Rocket's Meowth, Pokemon usually can't speak aside from saying their own name, which lends itself to being their own sort of language. So it's interesting that Ryan Reynolds was cast as Pikachu because it makes me curious to see if Pikachu will be talking or if Ryan Reynolds will simply be saying Pikachu over and over throughout the film.
