Jude Law is tapped to play young Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
In a surprise announcement, it has been revealed that actor Jude Law has been tapped to play young Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Law will have to really step up as Albus Dumbledore has become an iconic character to an entire generation of Harry Potter fans and they will certainly have a high standard that he will need to meet. Dumbledore was originally portrayed by actor Richard Harris and then Michael Gambon who took on the role when Harris passes away. Law will join Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald in the sequel.
Director David Yates spoke on Jude Law's casting by stating,
"“Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”"President and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Pictures Toby Emmerich also spoke about the casting.
"“As fans ourselves, we are thrilled to have Jude Law joining the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ cast, playing a character so universally adored. Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we’re excited to embark on this new adventure with him.”"As there is no way to tell how he will do, I will not comment on whether this is a good casting or not but I will say that if you look at the facial features of both Law and Gambon, there are definitely similarities which is great. I have hope that Law will succeed in the role.
What do you think of Jude Law's casting as young Albus Dumbledore? Are you excited to explore this new era in the iconic wizard's life?
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 will be in theaters on November 16, 2018.
