Star Wars: The Force Awakens' original title is revealed.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens may be smashing every box office record three is but the headlines very closely almost read a little differently. It has been revealed that the film originally had a different title and the title that it had may be recognizable to Star Wars book fans out there.
It has been revealed by Pablo Hidalgo, Creative Executive for the Lucasfilm Story Group, that the film was originally going to be named similarly to a very popular book.
@justinlasalata for longest time, the TFA title was the same as an old novel. Thankfully it changed. :) With so many books, it's inevitable

@VegaArts_ @justinlasalata it was Shadow (singular) of the Empire for a while.

Shadows of the Empire was a book published in December of 1996 and took place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. "The Force Awakens" is a title that works well with Episode 7's story. I can see how "Shadow of the Empire" would have come up in brainstorming sessions for this film but I think they went with the right title. Which title do you personally prefer?
