Lexus reveals a teaser video of their functioning hoverboard!
2015 just took an interesting turn with Lexus' reveal of the "SLIDE", their newly designed and functioning hoverboard. Hoverboards were of course made popular in the 1989 film Back to the Future 2. Could Lexus have just created the movie item fans have wanted for decades? Find out the details in the full article!
The year was 2015 when we saw hoverboards in Back to the Future 2 so it seems fitting that Lexus has brought the iconic movie prop to life this year. Mark Templin, Executive Vice President of Lexus International spoke out about the new achievement.
""At Lexus, we constantly challenge ourselves and our partners to push the boundaries of what is possible. That determination, combined with our passion and expertise for design and innovation, is what led us to take on the Hoverboard project. It's the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination.""According to Lexus spokesman Moe Durand the SLIDE was designed and built by an independent contractor and that for the moment it can only work in controlled environments. It will only work on steel surfaces and will only work as long as their is liquid nitrogen stored inside it.
"Through the combination of design, technology and imagination… SLIDE is a perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved."
"The Lexus Hoverboard uses magnetic levitation to achieve amazing frictionless movement. Liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors and permanent magnets combine to allow Lexus to create the impossible."
"Wrapped in a design that is uniquely Lexus, the Hoverboard features the iconic Lexus spindle grille signature shape, using materials found in the luxury car brand, from the high tech to the natural bamboo."At the moment this is all about promotion and getting people to head over to Lexus. The product will not be sold to the public but that doesn't mean that we won't see hoverboards in the future. This is a great first step.
