Will this new film be light hearted and playful light the original series the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers or will it feature a more dark and gritty tone like the recent fan film that created a big stir around the internet.
Dean Israelite, the director of the new Power Rangers film, recently spoke to IGN about exactly this topic.
When asked about how he got involved with the project, Israelite stated:
"I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way.""Mature and playful" is the thing that stands out in this response. It'll be fun to see how he pulls off the two separate tones. Israelite was then asked specifically how he would approach the tone of the film to which he said:
"it needs to be completely playful, and it needs to be really fun and funny. But like Project Almanac, I hope it's going to feel very grounded at the same time, and very contemporary and have a real edge to it, and a real gut to it. So I think it's going to be a fun, joyful [movie] but one that feels completely grounded in a real world, with real characters going through real things."It sounds like Israelite is trying to do right by this new film and to those who have been fans of the franchise since they were little. It is of course still too early to tell if this film will be good or not but so far I do like what I am hearing.
