Torchwood may be returning to the BBC! However it's not as a show or comic.

When Doctor Who fans found out there would be a spin-off series titled Torchwood that would star actor John Barrowman as the character Jack Harkness, they jumped through the roof. The show was a huge success and got bigger with every season (with the exception of it's fourth and final season on Starz). When the show ended fans felt conflicted on how they should feel about the news. On one hand they were devastated and wanted it back. On the other, the fourth season titled "Miracle Day" had left a sour taste in their mouths and some thought maybe it was for the best.

It appears now that after all this time that Torchwood may be returning! However, it may not be the way that you think. It's not coming back on television at the moment and when a fan favorite television series is cancelled one of the first questions (besides "why?!") is, "Is it getting a comic?" Torchwood is not getting a comic. It is getting something that many would have never guessed; radio plays!

During a press tour former Torchwood star John Barrowman revealed that the BBC is currently working on radio plays for Torchwood and that he is expecting to return for them to reprise his role as Jack Harkness. This is of course relying on the fact the the BBC will be able to schedule John Barrowman around his current work with the CW show Arrow. This seems likely to happen since Barrowman has made it known in the past that the producers of Arrow are big fans of Doctor Who and Torchwood and would let him go do any specials for those shows if he needed to.

Commenting on the radio plays, Barrowman stated:
"“I do know that we're doing three or four radio plays for the BBC for Torchwood. My sister and I are discussing the possibility of writing one of them and whether or not that leads to something [on TV] ... But I'm full-time with Arrow now. It's not a question of me not wanting to do it, it's a question of the BBC wanting to do it or others wanting to do Torchwood. I know the fans are out there so I think they'd be silly not to.”"
It is great to see the BBC showing interesting in Torchwood and this could be a great first step in seeing more of the show on a regular basis. Who knows, with enough growth maybe we'll get a new season of Torchwood back on the BBC.

Are you excited for the return on Torchwood? Will you tune in to listen to the radio plays?
