Sony in talks to cross over 21 Jump Street and Men In Black.
The Sony hack has been delivering some interesting news but this may be the most bizarre piece of information that has surfaced so far.
It appears that Sony has been looking for a way to get their Men In Black franchise back into the spotlight after a less than stellar outcome from MIB 3. Emails from Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal reveal that Sony is looking to return to the Men In Black franchise by crossing it over with the comedic "Jump Street" franchise starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. Jonah Hill is one of the producers for "Jump Street" and seems to be on board with this radical idea.
"In an e-mail to Ms. Pascal, Mr. Hill says “jump street merging with mib i think that’s clean and rad and powerful.”"Exact details on this crossover are non-existent at the moment but it looks like Sony would like to release this film between 2016 and 2017.
"In another e-mail, Hannah Minghella, a president of production for Sony’s Columbia Pictures label, says of the joint sequel, “We don’t have a script yet so we’ll be greenlighting the movie off the concept and the talent involved.”"From everything seen so far it looks like this movie has a very good probability of happening. The film also reportedly wouldn't feature the original stars of the Men In Black franchise, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. Or at least not in any major capacity.
"In a letter to Steven Spielberg’s attorney seeking to secure the filmmaker’s participation (Mr. Spielberg was an executive producer of the “Men in Black” films), Sony Pictures president of worldwide business affairs and operations Andrew Gumpert wrote, “We didn’t do as well as we had hoped for on the last MIB film, but that hasn’t caused us to lose faith in the franchise. In reality, the exact opposite has occurred where we all have an opportunity to take an interim step on the way to hopefully forging ahead again in the pure-play MIB universe.”"Do you think a crossover between the "Jump Street" franchise and the Men In Black franchise could work? Do you think this would successfully relaunch the MIB films? It all seems quite weird but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
