The Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary traveling art show hit NYC and it was amazing!
Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary traveling art show exhibit at Gallery 69 in New York City. Not only was I blown away by the amazing pieces of art in the show but it was just plain fun being surrounded by fellow Ghostbusters fans who were also enjoying the art.
The exhibit is being put on by Los Angeles' Gallery 1988 to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the film. About 78 artists have contributed their time and spectacular pieces to the show and many will be on sale during the events. The pieces vary from paintings to prints, and even sculptures.
Prices for the hand painted pieces were a bit steep for me at a couple hundred dollars or more but if you can afford the price they will certainly make your house look better and make your friends jealous. There were also posters and prints available that were much more affordable prices that were equally as amazing as the paintings. I was very excited to pick up a print titled "The Flowers Are Still Standing" for $40 that shows the three original Ghostbusters busting Slimer in the dining room of the Sedgewick Hotel. I cant wait to get it framed and up on my wall. There were even some great tee shirts for sale. I saw one that had a variation of the old Hi-C Ecto-Cooler with Slimer on it that was a lot of fun. (I loved Ecto-Cooler!) Taking your time and looking at all of the pieces really reminded you why you are a fan of the Ghostbusters films. You could see the hard work that went into the art and so many of the pieces were exceptionally clever and it just made you smile. If you can look at a piece of art and smile because it reminds you of great memories then you know it's a great piece. And that is just what these pieces did. Lastly, anyone who didn't grin ear to ear and get extremely excited at the life-size Slimer in the middle of the gallery is clearly not a fan of the films. Every person I saw, including myself, got so excited and instantly went over to get a photo with him. It was so much fun.
The art show will be in Los Angeles from May 17 - June 1st, Chicago from June 20-22nd, and then it will make its final stop at San Diego Comic Con (Booth #1806).
