Fantastic Four reboot will be a coming of age tale but don't expect them to be called the "Fantastic Four"!
Upcoming cast of the new Fantastic Four |
Director Josh Trank's new Fantastic Four reboot is having a lot of trouble getting support from fans as it tries to get off the floor and with each new announcement it seems that fans take a step away from the film.
The reboot is set to star Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm. In a recent interview producer Simon Kinberg spoke a little about what fans could expect from the story.
"We’re definitely telling a younger story that the original films did. It depends on what books you look at. There are some, like the Ultimate books, that tell this story. So it is an origin story of the Fantastic Four, and it does follow them before they really know what a superhero is."He continued to comment about the age of the characters which seems to be a concern for many fans.
"They’re older than high school, but they’re not quite grown into the world. If anything, this is a coming of age story."Next Kinberg was questioned about whether or not fans will see the iconic scene where the team received their powers after being bombarded with cosmic rays during a space flight. His answer here was a little more cryptic.
"There is archetypal imagery of how they get their powers, for sure, and it does involve some sort of scientific travel."Kinberg went on to talk about a few more details on the film including the iconic team name. What he had to say may not sit too well with fans.
"This Fantastic Four movie is in some ways a reboot. In other ways it's a standalone origin story. By the end of the movie, we don't call them the Fantastic Four. They are not celebrity superheroes. The tone of the movie is much more grounded, real and gritty; more in the direction of Chronicle then in the direction of the original Fantastic Four movies. It is really about how four, and in some ways five - with Victor von Doom, how five people go from being normal people in the world to being transformed when it first happens to something abnormal and then by the end sort of super human."I can get behind a coming of age story and an origin story but to not call the team the "Fantastic Four" in the film will feel more than wrong. How do you feel about some of these new announcements about the film?
Fantastic Four is scheduled to be in theaters on June 19th, 2015.
