Peter Jackson reveals big news about Smaug, the spiders of Mirkwood, and The Necromancer in The Hobbit!
The upcoming issue of Empire Magazine shares some great details for the upcoming movie trilogy for The Hobbit straight from director Peter Jackson himself.
*Possible Spoilers ahead.
Jackson has revealed that fan may not need to wait as long as they first suspected to get a glimpse of the dragon Smaug. Jackson told empire than fans will see a "fleeting appearance" of Smaug during the prologue of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Though it may only possibly be a few seconds of screen time it's still great news that we'll get to see Smaug earlier than we thought we would.
Jackson continued to comment on the fact that the spiders of Mirkwood will not make an appearance until the second film in the trilogy and that they'll speak with a "psychic communication" that only Bilbo hears. This answers the question of whether or not we'll be seeing talking spiders in the film.
Lastly, it was revealed that in the second film, The Desolation of Smaug, fans will travel to the stronghold of Dol Guldur, where The Necromancer dwells. Sylvester McCoy, who portrays Radagast the Brown, teases that this is "where the wizards are together, battling not each other but some other evil."

Yeeees, Smaug! Absolutely one f my favorite dragons of EVER.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little disappointed we don't get to see more about the Necomancer yet... I was really looking forward to that when he said he'd include that story line.
I'm definitely excited to see Smaug. I cannot wait! :)
DeleteAs for The Necromancer, I believe we'll get to see more of him in the movie than in the book. Just not in the first film.
