Mary Tamm, best known as Romana on Doctor Who, passes away at 62
It saddens me to write that Mary Tamm has passed away at the age of 62 after loosing her battle with cancer. Tamm is best known for her role as Romana on the British television series Doctor Who from 1978-1979. Romana was the companion to the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) and was the first companion to be a fellow Time Lord (or Time Lady) and one who more than held her own against Tom Baker as the Doctor. She was also a part of the first ongoing story arc titled "The Key to Time". Like the actress herself, Romana was a strong character and one who will always be one of my favorite companions.
After Doctor Who, Tamm held several roles including spots on Eastenders, Wire in the Blood, Doctors, Paradise Heights, and Brookside. In 2009 she had her autobiography First Generation published and was currently working on part two.
The hearts and wishes of the Doctor Who community and all of Mary's fans go out to her family. She will always be remembered.
