Myself dressed in my Twilight Princess Link Cosplay |
Legend of Zelda fans everywhere rejoiced as June 19th finally saw the much anticipated re-release of what is considered to be the best video game in history by many; The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Now on the Nintendo 3DS, the game boasts updated graphics and new modes for gamers to try out. For this release Nintendo World in New York City held a launch event for the game in which people lined up outside the store hours before it opened; some of which were there the night before.
When the doors finally opened at 11am Nintendo World had plenty for the fans to do. Coming in costume was encouraged by Nintendo, so many fans showed up in their best Legend of Zelda costume, myself included! I had worn my Twilight Princess Link cosplay and had a great time in it at the store. Fans were excited to take pictures of and with the costumers and got to ask them questions about what went into making their outfits and props. Furthermore, seeing how excited the little kids got at the sight of the cosplayers was completely adorable. The store itself had a fun group shot of everyone that had shown up in costume and gave them a free Nintendo 3DS t-shirt. When you first walked in employees gave you a Nintendo World commemorative card special for the launch event and directed you to a table with a large treasure chest on it where you could receive your entry form for a Gold Skulltula Scavenger Hunt. The store had 20 gold Skulltulas (10 on each floor) hidden all over the store with a number and a code word. Fans who completed the hunt and handed in their papers were entered in a raffle give away at the end of the event at 2pm. The hunt was a lot of fun and there were definitely some tricky Skulltulas to find hidden by the ceiling or in the corners of shelves. This was a great idea to hold for the fans. Next, visitors to Nintendo World are treated to consoles set up around the store to play the newest games, however for this launch event Ocarina of Time 3D was set up on the 3DS systems and classic Zelda games were set up upstairs on the Wiis for people to play (first 3 games). The attendees had a great time playing all the different Zelda games set up and got to reminisce about playing them when they were younger.
Additionally,
Nintendo Week was at the launch event with host Alison Whitney getting interviews with fans and costumers about their thoughts on the game. Also in attendance was
StreetPassNYC who was holding their own trivia contest for the fans in attendance.
Though this felt like more of a smaller event it was still a fun time and there were a lot of great people there. Fans got to come together and talk about one of their favorite franchises and get lots of photos. Next up - Skyward Sword!
